First Year Technical Blog pt.20
The first full week at RADA has passed and I now not only know what to do in the case of choking, resuscitation, burns, broken bones, nosebleeds, seizures, bleeding, anaphylaxis and spinal injury, but, I’ve also used a single purchase counterweight system for the first time (no need to go to the gym), learnt what signal processing devices are and what the difference is between a Jack lead and a GPO Jack. Oh, and not forgetting, I am now fully aware of the Health and Safety Act of 1974 and how to fill out a risk assessment with regards to using a cheese fondue on stage.
In addition to all of the above, the ASM lecture given by the Stage Management team was an eye opener to me. It really put into context how important the Assistant Stage Manager is when it comes to organisation, communication with other departments, cast welfare and, of course, the massive amount of time they put in sourcing, making, borrowing, buying and maintaining props. I hadn’t necessarily realised the latter before now. How exciting!
Oh my, this week seems to have flown by. It seems only yesterday I was writing last week’s blog.
Bring on week 3! I cannot wait to start my first rotation, Stagecraft!!
